You can pay your Council Tax by Direct Debit - set up a Council Tax Direct Debit. Payments for Council Tax and business rates can be debited from your nominated bank account on the 1, 8, 15 and 25 of the month.

By completing this Direct Debit instruction you have accepted that any arrears will be collected in one instalment on the next selected date unless they are subject to enforcement  action which includes  Attachment of Earnings Order; Deductions from Benefits, and cases with Enforcement Agents

Alternatively if you have arrears and wish to pay these by a payment arrangement, either:

  • Register for an online account which enables you to self-serve and create a payment arrangement (subject to certain conditions)
  • Contact Customer Services

If you intend to pay the Council Tax on someone else’s behalf as a third party payer, please contact Customer Services on 01858 828282.

You can also pay your Council Tax online.

You can pay your Council Tax in other ways.

You will receive a Council Tax bill every year showing your charges and how these are broken down over the year. It shows the amount due less any Council Tax discounts and Council Tax Support. View your Council Tax details online.

You can choose to pay your Council Tax over 10 months or 12 months. We will set your payments over 10 months unless you tell us that you would like to pay Council Tax over 12 months.

Instalments must be made by the dates written on your bill or we will take action. Even if you have a question about your bill, you must pay your instalments until the issue is resolved and a new bill is sent to you.

If you think your bill is wrong

View your Council Tax details online. Tell us immediately if you think your Council Tax bill is wrong. You must continue to pay the amounts set out in your original bill until you are sent a new bill.

If the amount of Council Tax you have to pay changes during the year, perhaps because you start receiving a discount or benefits, you will get a new bill. This will tell you what the new amount for the year is and what instalments you now have to pay.

Difficulty paying the bill

Contact us as soon as you realise you have a problem paying your Council Tax bill. You may be able to get a Council Tax discount or Council Tax Support.

Do not ignore the bill or any reminders about payment that we send you. If you do not pay the instalments when they are due and don't discuss the situation with us, we may take recovery action that could increase the amount you have to pay by a large amount.

Unpaid bills

If you miss a Council Tax payment we will send you a reminder notice giving you 7 days to bring your Council Tax payments up-to-date. If you do not do this within the time, or if after a second reminder you fall behind with your payments again, you will have to pay the the full amount left for the rest of the year in one go. If the balance is not paid, we will take action. Read about how we recover unpaid Council Tax.
