The Statement of Community Involvement

The Statement of Community Involvement (SCI) explains how parties with an interest in planning issues in the District can engage with the planning system. Essentially its sets out who, when and how the authority will consult when developing new planning policy and processing planning applications.

Harborough District Council is responsible for the preparation of planning policy documents principally the Local Plan (Plan-making) and the determination of planning applications (Development Management). The opportunity for the community to be involved with both these aspects is an essential part of good planning.

We are required to produce a SCI under the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004, Section 18 and other relevant and amended legislation. A 7 week period of consultation was undertaken between 19 November 2019 and 8 January 2020 prior to the SCI being adopted by Council in February 2020.  Committee papers, which include a summary of the main issues raised through consultation can be viewed here Meetings and Events - Cabinet 10 02 20.

The adopted version of the SCI is available to view at HDC’s offices during normal opening times and can be downloaded below.
