Access to Information

Freedom of Information Act

The Freedom of Information Act 2000 is designed to promote greater openness and accountability by public authorities.

The Act requires all public authorities to produce a 'Publication Scheme' which lists all information currently published, the format in which it is available and any applicable charges. The aim of the Publication Scheme is to make information easy to find and quickly accessible to the public.

Publication Scheme

All requests must be made in writing and must be responded to within 20 working days. The Council must consider Public Interest and whether any of the requested information is exempt from disclosure. There may be fees applicable in which case the information will not be released until the payment is received.

If the Council do not respond to your request within 20 working days or if you are not satisfied by the response then in the first instance you can write to the Chief Executive of Harborough District Council asking for an internal review of the decision.  If you are still unhappy following the results of the review then you can appeal to the Information Commissioner.
