Chairman of the Council
Protocols
The Chairman of the Council is elected by the Council at its meeting in May of each year. He/she is the First Citizen and represents the Council at Civic Functions and at local events around the district.
The role is ceremonial and has no decision-making responsibilities, and is not the same as the role of an Elected Mayor which exists in some parts of the UK.
The Chairman's activities and engagements are looked after by a secretary, who is based within the Chief Executive's Office.
You can book the Chairman for your event or function by contacting his secretary.
The Chairman of the Council for the current year is Councillor Councillor John Everett
The current Vice-Chairman of the Council is Councillor Geraldine Robinson
