Applying for Planning Permission

Submit a planning application

You can submit a planning application electronically to Harborough District Council using the National Planning Portal.

If you are new to the planning process you should first establish if you need planning permission. See Do I need Permission?

New forms and information requirements (known as validation criteria) known as 1APP were introduced nationally in April 2008.

The type of form needed and information required depends on the type of application you want to submit. New national and local requirements came into force with the 1APP regime.  A National List of Planning Application Requirements has been established which is a legal requirement for all applications to meet after the 6 April 2008.  In March - April 2008 local authorities across Leicestershire & Rutland joined together to consult on the Local List of Planning Application Requirements resulting in the local list being finalised in early April.

Forms, guidance notes and the national and local requirements can be downloaded below.

Don't forget you may need Building Regulations approval or other types of permission.

The Planning Portal is a national website that provides advice on various aspects of the planning process. You can use the Planning Portal to submit online applications too and to download hard copies of the form. The online application process may be easier than the paper form, as it helps prevent you from submitting an invalid application.

Application forms can be completed, plans, drawings and supporting documents can be attached and the fee can also be paid using a debit or credit card online.

The Planning Portal also provides an Ordnance Survey service where maps can be purchased as part of the application submission process. You can contact the Planning Portal for help and assistance with applying online.
