Hot on the heels of an inaugural campaign in October 2019, a host of local independent shops and businesses across Harborough District are taking part in their second Fiver Fest.

The new campaign will run from Saturday 15 February to 29 February 2020 with Harborough Market, Harbs Collective and Taste Harborough members coming together with a host of independent businesses, cafes, shops, and market stalls, to showcase special £5 offers available in store.

The ‘Fiver Fest’ idea sprang out of the national Totally Locally campaign – which promotes ways to make towns more vibrant and resilient – as a way to promote the huge impact that spending just £5 extra per week in local independent businesses can have across the UK’s High Streets.

Cllr Phil King, leader of Harborough District Council, said: "The Totally Locally campaign have estimated that If every adult in Harborough spent just £5 extra per week in their local independent shops and businesses, it would bring an estimated £17.8 million per year extra into the local economy. The Fiver Fest campaign is a great opportunity for people to visit places in the District that they may not have seen before and to boost our local economy at the same time.”

Jarrod Burke, Chairman of Harbs Collective and local business owner, said: “A simple campaign like this highlights what great value products and services can be found in our local Independent businesses and shops. At a time when we all face fierce competition from online sales, it is important to support our high streets, so we hope the campaign encourages shoppers to visit their local town centres.”
