Have fun, but be sensible and considerate is the message in the run up to Halloween and bonfire night.

The Harborough District Community Safety Partnership (CSP) is giving away free ‘No Thanks’ posters politely asking trick or treaters to stay away.

The team will also be talking to young people outside Caffé Nero, in The Square, Market Harborough, on Thursday 27th October 2011, from 2.30pm-4.30pm.

The aim is to engage with young people as they come out of school and gather in The Square to find out their concerns, and discourage the anti-social behaviour that can occur around Halloween and bonfire night.

The fire service will also be present looking at bonfire safety and the consequences of arson and there will also be the opportunity for any member of the public to speak to the team any concerns they have and pick up information about the work the partnership is doing in the area.

Cllr Colin Golding, chairman of the CSP, said: “Enjoy yourself this Halloween, but remember not everyone wants to take part in trick or treating. Respect the wishes of elderly and vulnerable members of our community, and don’t call at homes displaying ‘No Thanks’ posters.

We also take the throwing of eggs and flour very seriously. So have fun, but be sensible.”
