A big spring clean is taking place on Saturday and people are invited to get involved and help tackle ‘grot-spots’.

The Community Clear Up Day, is a national spring clean run by the Government with Keep Britain Tidy, local authorities and volunteers, and will take place on Saturday 21 March 2015.

Harborough District Council is providing refuse bags, gloves and litter pickers, from the reception of The Symington Building, in Adam and Eve Street, Market Harborough, from 9.45am-10.15am and is arranging collection of sacks following the event.

Volunteers can simply turn up, pick up equipment, and tackle a grot-spot of their choosing. Items can then be returned between 11.30am and 12.30pm.

Volunteers who have taken part will also have any car parking charges for the day reimbursed.

The council supports around 30 litter picks across the district every year is inviting people to get involved in this one.

Cllr Paul Bremner, district councillor for environment and waste, said: “Litter is an eyesore and can often be the scourge of nice areas. I know people take pride in the town and will want to join this event. It promises to be a fun, social occasion as well as a great way to improve the look of public places.”
