Charges for garden waste collections in the Harborough District will apply from 4 April 2016.

Harborough District Council has introduced a £40 per bin annual subscription fee for garden waste collections applicable from 4 April 2016.

Thousands of residents have already signed up to have their garden waste collected from this date and have been issued with a sticker for their green bin.

This means they will be able to have their green bins emptied fortnightly between the months of April and November 2016, and during March 2017. Garden waste collections will not take place during the winter months of December, January and February.

Cllr Phil King, Harborough District Council’s portfolio holder for financial and commercialisation services, said: “I would encourage residents to contact the council sooner rather than later to make sure they have their green bin sticker to so they can benefit from collections from April. I am pleased so many residents have signed up to the scheme and that the council is able to continue to provide a paid-for garden waste collection service for those residents who use it.”

A number of refuse collection vehicles (pictured) now have banners reminding residents how to sign up to the scheme.

Residents are also reminded that the paper caddy within the blue-lidded bins will no longer being used from April 2016, providing more room in the recycling bin. The inserts can be used for additional recycling but residents must ensure this is not left inside the bin once presented out for collection from April 2016.

Sign up to the garden waste service online via the Harborough District Council website at www.harborough.gov.uk/green-bin or call 01858 828282.
