Market Harborough on track for a better future

Harborough District Council has welcomed the announcement in the Chancellor’s budget of £1million to expand car parking facilities at Market Harborough rail station.

This is alongside the recent announcement by East Midlands Trains of significant improvements to Market Harborough Station and the straightening of the Midland Mainline.

The Council has, in recent years, made representations to MPs, Network Rail and East Midlands Trains and through the Leicester and Leicestershire Economic Partnership (LLEP) for improvements to the connectivity of Harborough District to London and to improve the customer experience at the station and its facilities.

Councillor Blake Pain, Leader of Harborough District Council: “I am delighted with the recent announcement that Market Harborough Station and the Midland Mainline will receive significant investment including the provision for improved car parking that I have lobbied hard for. Recent studies have found Harborough District to be one of the most popular places in Britain to live. Rail connectivity and station facilities are essential to maintaining this reputation and to prevent road parking in the vicinity of the station.”
