Free event helps older people ‘get up and go’

Older people, who may feel less confident about mobility and exercise, are being encouraged to join a free event promoting a more active lifestyle.

‘Get up and go’ – run by Harborough District Council’s active together team in partnership with Leicestershire and Rutland Sport – offers the opportunity to meet and chat with a physio, join an exercise class for all abilities, and try a ‘get up and go’ test.

Participants will also get to take home a useful information pack and a free pair of fitted slippers.

Councillor Rosita Page, Harborough District Council’s spokesman for health and well-being said: “This promises to be a fun, relaxed and informative event so anyone who would like to boost their confidence, when it comes to mobility or doing more physical activity, should come along.”

The event takes place on Tuesday 27 September 2016, at Harborough District Council’s council chamber at The Symington Building, Adam and Eve Street, Market Harborough, LE16 7AG.

Sessions on the day will take place at 10am, 12.30pm and 3pm.

Tea, coffee and cake will be included free.

The event is part of the week-long Feel Alive from 65 campaign running from 26 September 2016 to 2 October 2016.

Anyone interested in coming along should email activetogether@harborough.gov.uk or call the active together team on 01858 828282.
