PRINCIPAL SOLICITOR

Salary :                      £35,430 - £38,042

Status:                      Temporary (to cover maternity leave)

Location :                 Split site between Harborough District Council and Melton Borough Council

Hours:                       37 hour week

Harborough District Council is looking to appoint a temporary Principal Solicitor to cover maternity leave of the permanent post holder.

The post will provide legal advice to both Harborough District Council and Melton Borough Council, although will be employed by Harborough District Council.  You will deal with primarily contentious matters and will be a Solicitor or Barrister with significant experience of advocacy at Tribunals, County Court and the Magistrates Court .  You will have prime responsibility for advising on all aspects of planning and in particular development control as well as environmental and housing matters.  You will be expected to represent the Councils at both the County Court and Magistrates Court .

The successful candidate will have experience of working within a local authority and will have a flexible approach to work, to be able to meet the  challenges of working for two authorities.
