Providing documents in alternative formats (translation and interpretation)
We realise it is not always easy for everyone to access information about the services we provide, or to read the information we send them.
Therefore as a council we need to be able to provide this information in a variety of ways that meet the needs of everyone in the community. Some of the different ways we will produce information are:
Interpretation and translation
We can provide an interpretation and translation service (both written and spoken) upon request for people whose first language is not English. This can be for one-to-one interviews or meetings, and translation of documents and information.
Language Line
We have a dedicated phone line for people to make interpreted telephone enquiries. Click here to download a pdf copy of the language identification chart which should be used by people requiring a Language Line interpreter (these are also available at our customer service points).
Alternative formats
We can provide information in Braille, audio tape, compact disc, large print or sign anguage for people with visual or hearing impairments upon request.
Service Standards
We also have specific service standards for documents in alternative formats;
-
we will provide a text document with less than 1,200 words in an alternative format within five working days
-
we will provide a text document with more than 1,200 words in an alternative format within 10 working days.
To request information in an alternative format or translation services please contact us on 01858 828282.
