Bands and musicians needed for festival

Published Thursday 24th June 10

Are you a musician, artist or in a band? If so, there's a chance to perform live at a free music festival taking place in August, dubbed 'Rock on the Rec'.

Rock on the RecThe search is on to find local bands and musicians to play a free music festival taking place in August - and any style of music is welcome.

The 'Rock on the Rec' event, is being organised by young music fans, and will take place at Symington's Recreation Ground in Market Harborough on Thursday, August 12.

Organisers are looking for young musicians, artists and bands to perform at the event, which runs from 4pm to 9pm.

There'll be a main stage, plus an 'open mic' tent where anyone can have a go.

The eagerly-awaited event is being organised by young people, with support from the Rural Youth Voice Project - a Big Lottery funded project - Enable Youth, and partners including Harborough District Council, Voluntary Action South Leicestershire, the Community Safety Partnership and the Street Pastors.

It coincides with International Youth Day, and the start of the UN Year of Youth, which encourages the participation of young people in all aspects of society.

Sian Ponting, the Rural Youth Voice project worker, said: "We wanted to highlight the exceptional wealth of young talent in the district. This event, along with other work being developed by the Rural Youth Voice project, builds on what young people want and offers them the opportunity to really shine in our community."

As well as music, the event will also be showcasing films made by local young people about issues that are important to them, and there will be a selection of taster dishes of international cuisine available.

HFM will also be doing a live broadcast from the event.

If people are interested in performing, or need more information, they should contact Sian Ponting on 07576 021 144 or email sian@vasl.org.uk
