A new Head of Planning has been appointed at Harborough District Council.

David Atkinson will be joining the authority as Head of Planning and Regeneration at the beginning of April 2015.

David is currently the Head of the West Northamptonshire Joint Planning Unit and brings with him a wealth of planning and management experience from a range of different organisations.

He will be responsible for overseeing the Council’s Development Management and Strategic Planning teams.

During his career, David has been involved in bringing a number of major projects to fruition.

As Head of the West Northamptonshire Joint Planning Unit, David led a major joint, cross-boundary, local plan to adoption for the Councils of Daventry, Northampton and South Northamptonshire.

Prior to this, whilst working in Bedfordshire, he led similar work for Luton and South Bedfordshire Councils. Earlier in his career David held similar posts at Swindon, Stafford and Watford.

David said he enjoys responding to challenges and making a difference.

In his spare time David enjoys keeping fit. He can often be found exercising in his local gym and, on summer weekends, walking in the local countryside. He is anticipating getting out and about in the local Leicestershire countryside and exploring the area.

David said: “I am very much looking forward to getting started with Harborough District Council. The refurbished Symington Building is very impressive and I am really going to enjoy working there.”
