Winter weather advice
The Met Office Severe Weather Warnings give advance warning of extreme weather conditions.
Gritting of primary and secondary roads within the district when weather conditions may prove hazardous is the responsibility of Leicestershire County Council. View further information about the roads that are gritted in Leicestershire.
The County Council also provide grit bins for public use on roads and pavements in potentially dangerous areas.
When ice is forecast, 45 per cent of the road network (around 1,200 miles of the network) is treated. The gritting routes include A and B roads, some C class roads, major commuter routes, major bus routes and, as far as is possible, at least one route through all Leicestershire villages.
Tweets are sent from the Leicestershire County Council Twitter account when the gritters go out, as well as general winter advice and gritting updates during bad weather. Follow @LeicsCountyHall
