Harborough District Council launches 'Working Wonders' to connect schools with local industry
Published Thursday 28 May 2026.
Harborough District Council (HDC) has launched 'Working Wonders', a dedicated offer helping local secondary schools link directly with industry. This provides a vital opportunity for employers, businesses and entrepreneurs to connect with young people at a crucial time when they are exploring careers and opportunities.
We need a flexible network of volunteers on the Working Wonders database representing all careers and employment opportunities – Trades, Professionals, Entrepreneurs. Whether you are an experienced business owner or completely new to volunteering, your real-world insights can inspire the district's future generation.
You can support students through careers talks, mock interviews, mentoring, CV workshops or workplace visits. The process is simple:
- Complete a short online form outlining your interests to join the Working Wonders database.
- Schools contact HDC with their requirements, and we then share these opportunities with our registered volunteers.
- Participation is highly flexible to fit your schedule, with no immediate obligation upon registering.
Alongside supporting students, employers can:
- Raise awareness of their specific sectors.
- Inspire and attract future talent.
- Support corporate social responsibility goals.
Councillor Phil King, Deputy Leader of Harborough District Council and Portfolio Holder for Finance, Business and Tourism, said: "It is fantastic to see this opportunity bringing together local businesses and professionals to support young people, local schools and our future workforce. Projects like Working Wonders show the positive difference that can be made when employers, organisations and entrepreneurs work together to inspire and support the next generation."
Championed by the HDC Youth Council and officially launched at the Market Harborough Chamber of Commerce on 27 May 2026, the project highlights the critical need for young people to access diverse industry insights.
