Governance
Governance is about the way that organisations like councils and companies do things to ensure they make the right decisions in the right way.
At Harborough District Council, we recognise the importance of good governance; we are a public authority, spending public money and people need to trust that we take our responsibilities seriously.
We have produced a Code of Corporate Governance which has been produced in line with best practice to set out the processes we have in place to ensure that our governance arrangements are reflective. Each year, we produce an Annual Governance Statement alongside our statement of accounts. This confirms how our governance arrangements have worked over the past year and areas for improvement.

The way that the Council makes decisions is outlined within its constitution. This is a governing set of documents that confirms the rules and practices that the Council operates to. It confirms the terms under which Councillors can make decisions, and how the public can engage with these.

We recognise that we don’t always get things right. If we’re aware, we can take action to investigate and put things right. As a member of the public, you have concerns that something has gone wrong in the way that we have delivered services, you can use our complaints form to report this. If your concern is that something potentially unlawful or fraudulent has happened, then you can also report your concern directly to the Council’s Monitoring Officer at monitoring.officer@harborough.gov.uk. You may also find it helpful to review our whistleblowing policy, which sets out how we will respond to such concerns.
