Council tax support scheme
From 1 April 2013 a new local scheme called council tax support will be brought in. This will replace council tax benefit and some council tax discounts and exemptions. This is part of the Governments welfare reform.
What is council tax?
Council tax is a contribution that you must make to help pay for local services

Council tax is a property tax with a personal element that contributes towards the financing of local government services

Payment of your council tax should be made in accordance with the information printed on your bill

The Valuation Office advise the Council of the banding that relates to your home

Council tax bills are sent every financial year and will show the amount due, less any discounts and benefit
Who pays the bill?
Who pays the bill for a property depends on who is liable
Change of details
Council tax is a daily charge, so it is important that you notify us of any changes, giving exact dates
Discounts and exemptions
You may be able to claim a discount or exemption, which is not dependant upon you being on a low income
