A table tennis table has been installed in Welland Park in Market Harborough to encourage local people to take up the sport.

Harborough District Council, which owns the park, was contacted with the idea by the Kettering & District Table Tennis League which had obtained a £10,000 grant from SportEngland with the aim of increasing participation in table tennis throughout its league area.

The Harborough Table Tennis Club, based in Church Langton, which participates in the league purchased a table for Welland Park from the grant, as well as one for Welland Park Academy to encourage school pupils to play.

The district council agreed the table could be installed next to its popular café in Welland Park, at which people can hire table tennis bats and balls for just £1/£5 deposit.
