Leicestershire Police and Crime Commissioner Election 2 May 2024

The election of a Police & Crime Commissioner for Leicestershire takes place on a four year cycle, the latest election takes place on Thursday 2 May this year.

Registering to vote

You need to be on the register of electors to vote in an election. If you are already registered to vote at your address you don’t need to reapply. We will send out poll cards around 26 March to all electors within the Harborough District. If you are not on the register of electors you have until 16 April to apply. You can apply online or download an application form by visiting Register to vote page on www.gov.uk.

Voter ID at a polling station

All voters must provide suitable ID to vote at their polling station, for information and a list of valid ID go to the Voter ID page on our website. If you don’t already have an accepted form of photo ID, or you’re not sure whether your photo ID still looks like you, you can apply for a free voter ID document, known as a Voter Authority Certificate.

Voting by post

If you don’t already have a postal vote in place you can apply up to 5pm on 17th April. New rules mean you can now apply for a postal vote online as well as by paper form, whichever way you apply you will need to provide your national insurance number and proof of ID under the new rules recently introduced.

Voting by proxy

If you won’t be able to vote in person on 2 May and would like someone to vote on your behalf you should apply by 5pm on 24 April. To apply for a proxy vote you will have to provide your national insurance number and proof of ID under the new rules recently introduced. You can only apply to vote by proxy if –

  • You will be away on polling day
  • You are a registered overseas voter
  • Mave a medical issue or disability
  • Unable to vote in person due to work or being in the Armed Forces
