Community Governance Reviews

Medbourne Parish Community Governance Review

Medbourne Parish Council has petitioned Harborough District Council to commence a community governance review to look at whether to increase the number of councillors on the parish council. The parish council currently has five councillors.

Although it has requested the council to be increased to seven, the review can decide not to make changes, to increase to seven, or to increase to any other number. The terms of reference were agreed by Harborough District Council on 29 September 2026, and the consultation is now live until 24 November 2026.

All registered electors in Medbourne should be receiving a letter to explain how to respond to the consultation. If you would like further information, or did not receive your letter, please contact us on cgr@harborough.gov.uk

Market Harborough Community Governance Review

Harborough District Council is now entering the final stages of the community governance review for Market Harborough. A report will be presented to the Council meeting on 2 November making the final recommendations, based on the outcome of the two phases of consultation and the local poll.

The community governance review was initiated as Market Harborough does not presently have its own parish council.

Having considered the outcomes from the first round of consultation, which took place between January and April, the result of the local poll, which took place on 30 April, and reviewing the statutory guidance it has to follow, Harborough District Council decided to support the creation of a new parish council in principle.

A consultation took place in July and August to understand residents’ views on technical arrangements such as potential warding and the number of councillors a new council should have.
