Communities Supporting Residents

Community Development

Community development is all about working together to strengthen the places where we live, work, and spend time. At its heart, it brings residents, local groups, businesses and public services together to identify shared priorities and create positive change. By supporting local initiatives and helping communities shape the decisions that affect them, we can build confident, connected and resilient neighbourhoods.

Community Development in Harborough District

At Harborough District Council we are keen to support our rural towns, villages and parishes.  We want to work collaboratively with parishes, community groups, voluntary organisations and partners to strengthen the connections that make our district a great place to live.

We recognise that our local communities face unique challenges due to the rural nature of the district.  We’ve heard that limited transport links, financial exclusion, social isolation and digital exclusion are problems affecting many of the communities and residents across the district. Whether it’s supporting volunteer-led projects, improving access to services, or helping communities take the lead on local issues, through collaboration, empowerment and long-term engagement we want to build on our local strengths to address these issues and enable our communities to thrive.

If you would like to get involved in this work, please contact Gemma Finan, Community Development Officer - communities@harborough.gov.uk.
