Market Harborough Community Governance Review - Consultation Phase 2

From: 15/06/2026 To: 24/07/2026.

Harborough District Council is now entering the final stages of the Community Governance Review for Market Harborough.

At present, Market Harborough does not have its own parish council and instead, services that are usually provided by a parish council are provided by Harborough District Council.

The community governance review is looking at whether this should change, and instead whether the whole of the Market Harborough area should be governed by a new Parish Council.

Having considered the outcomes from the first round of consultation, which took place between January and April, the result of the local poll, which took place on 30 April, and reviewing the statutory guidance it has to follow, Harborough District Council has decided to support the creation of a new Parish Council in principle.

Before a final decision is made in September, Harborough District Council is now consulting on the technical aspects of setting up a new parish council, in particular:

  1. The name of the new council
  2. The number of councillors it should have
  3. The wards it should be divided into (the areas each Councillor represents)

This consultation, which is open from Monday 15 June to Friday 24 July is the final opportunity for residents to have their say.
