Sports Awards 2018 - final call for nominations!

Nominate your candidates for Harborough District Sport Awards 2018.

After the success of last year’s Harborough District Sports Awards, Harborough District Council, working in partnership with the Local Sports Alliance (Active Harborough District) are pleased to announce that the awards will be taking place again this year.

The closing date for nominations - which can be made at www.harboroughsport.org.uk/awards2018 - is Friday 28 September 2018.

The celebration event taking place at Leicester Grammar School on Thursday 15 November 2018.

A great number of entries have been received so far with categories such as Physical Activity Star, Club of the Year and Senior and Junior Sports person available.

The Local Sports Alliance is made up of representatives from Harborough District Council, local sports clubs, Leicester-Shire and Rutland Sport, the school sports partnership, Physical Activity providers and Serco.

If you are a local sports club, athlete, volunteer or someone who has become more physically active in the last year, take just a few minutes to read through the criteria and see if you could submit a nomination.

The awards night will see a showcase of local sporting success as well as displays from local groups celebrating physical activity.

Councillor Janette Ackerley, Harborough District Council's portfolio holder for Wellbeing and Localities said: "I'm pleased the Council is so involved in this excellent event and I encourage people to nominate those deserving people in the sports and leisure community for these awards. Last year's Sports Awards was a huge success and I hope this year's event can be even better."

Active Harborough District Chair, Nicky Collett said: “Last year's celebration event was a huge success with award winners coming from across the district. The awards evening is an excellent way of recognising the wonderful work that goes on in sport and physical activity settings . It's not too late to make a nomination for this year's awards, we look forward to hearing from you." 

Harborough District Council's Physical Activity Strategy - and 'Healthy Harborough' campaign - is helping create accessible, sustainable sport and leisure opportunities across the district which encourage participation, improve health and well-being and enhance quality of life.
