Major step forward in meeting housing demand

A further step forward has been taken in helping make sure the right development happens in the right place across Harborough district.

Housing

Following the adoption of its Local Plan in April 2019, latest data shows that Harborough District Council has a current housing supply of 7.04 years.

Councillor Phil King, Harborough District Council’s Leader and strategic planning lead, said: “This is very pleasing as it puts the Council in a strong position and gives us more control in helping make sure development happens in the most suitable locations.”

To encourage the supply of housing nationally, the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) requires all local authorities to have a ‘five year housing land supply’ which identifies sites that can be developed within a five year period. Otherwise, local authorities risk housing developments being imposed upon them in locations which may fall outside sites agreed in approved planning policy documents.
