In Market Harborough there will be an official launch in front of the memorial gardens starting at 10.30am on Saturday 26 October.

Following this, The Royal British Legion, which provides help and welfare to the serving forces, ex-service community and their families, will be collecting for the Poppy Appeal in the Market Food Hall.

Poppies, brooches, badges, pins and crosses will be on sale to raise funds between Saturday 26 October and Saturday 9 November 2019.

Stewart Harrison, Chairman of the Market Harborough branch of the Royal British Legion said, “Each year we are humbled and grateful for the generosity shown by people in the Harborough District. All support is welcome, however big or small, as the Poppy Appeal is vital to ensure that Armed Forces personnel, their families and dependents of the fallen and wounded are looked after.”

There will be an opportunity for shoppers to contribute their own messages of support at Harborough Market from 10am to 3pm on Saturday 2 November 2019 and Council Chairman, Councillor Barbara Johnson, will be in attendance.

The public will also be invited to craft a poppy and write a note of remembrance, both of which will be used to create a Community Wreath which will be laid as part of the annual Remembrance Day Service on 10 November 2019 in Market Harborough.

Councillor Johnson said: “I am indeed privileged as Chairman, taking part in the forthcoming ceremonies, to be able to pay particular tribute to those in our community who served and those who lost their lives in war.

“The poppy is a powerful symbol of remembrance, recalling the poppies that flowered every year in the battle-scarred landscape of World War I in Northern France and Belgium.

“I urge you to support the Poppy Appeal. Donations each year provide vital funding for the Royal British Legion’s vital ongoing welfare work. “

Harborough Market is open 8am to 5pm Tuesday to Saturday, and 10am to 4pm on Sunday for the popular Sunday Antiques Market.
