Enter VE Day 75 poetry competitionPublished Thursday 30 April 2020
Friday 8 May 2020 marks 75 years since the end of war in Europe.
On 8 May 1945 at 3pm, Prime Minister Winston Churchill made an announcement on the radio that the war in Europe had come to an end following Germany’s surrender the day before.
To commemorate this significant milestone, Harborough District Council (HDC) is inviting you to write and submit a poem about VE Day.
Three winners will have their work shared on social media, displayed at Harborough Market (when it fully reopens) and will receive a Waterstones gift voucher worth £25.00 (when it reopens).
There are three categories: Under 11s, under 18s and 18+.
Any form of verse is welcome, of no more than 300 words and should be submitted by email to firstname.lastname@example.org by 8pm Sunday 3rd May 2020, stating your name and age. Entrants must live, study or work in the Harborough District.
Winners will be announced by email and on social media on VE Day Friday 8 May 2020. Runners up will have their work shared on social media over the VE75 weekend.
By entering the competition, entrants or the parent or guardian of entrants, grants to HDC a perpetual non-exclusive royalty-free licence to publish, broadcast (across all media) and post the entry online. This licence will be deemed to include all the necessary rights and permissions to enable use by HDC including publishing the entrant’s name and age.
All entries must be the original work of the entrant and must not infringe the rights of any other party. The judges’ decision will be final.
