Comedy festival returns to Harborough district for 2021Published Wednesday 4 November 2020
Call for venues and performers to get involved.
Harborough District Council is delighted to announce that the Leicester Comedy Festival BIG Weekend is returning to the Harborough District in February 2021, albeit with a slightly different feel to previous years due to the impact of Covid-19.
Whilst the last two years have seen acts performing in venues across the district, Government restrictions may mean that the 2021 event sees less live acts, and more online activities and community engagement.
The Council is encouraging anyone who wishes to take part in the festival to get in touch, whether they are a business, a venue, a community group, an amateur comedian, schools, and older people’s homes.
Cllr Phil King, Leader of Harborough District Council said: “We are busy working on the programme for 2021, but understandably this may look different to previous years. Our emphasis will be on business and community engagement, working with schools and older people, as well as supporting those venues and community groups that are able to participate.”
The ‘take part’ sentiment is very much echoed by Leicester Comedy Festival Director, Geoff Rowe, who said: “We are delighted that the Leicester Comedy Festival BIG Weekend will be returning to Harborough District in February. I think everyone expects and understands that nearly everything is going to have to be bit different in this new normal that we live in, and the BIG Weekend will be no different. What we do know is that the events and activities will help rebuild communities, give people something to look forward to and hopefully help improve the wellbeing of residents and visitors.
“The continued support of our partners, venues and especially Harborough District Council is very much appreciated, and we encourage people to get in touch if they want to be involved.”
The Leicester Comedy Festival will take place from Wednesday 3 February – Sunday 21 February 2021, with the BIG Weekend expanding throughout the course of the whole Festival.
