Visitors encouraged back to Market Harborough with programme of events

Published Thursday 19 August 2021

An exciting calendar of summer events kicks off this weekend in Harborough Town Square with a Birds of Prey display this Saturday 21 August.

On show will be several spectacular birds of prey including owls, eagles and hawks. Come and have your photograph taken with an impressive feathery hunter if you’re feeling brave enough! Then share your pics within the community by using the hashtag #WelcomebackHarborough. The expert falconer bird handler will be on hand to answer any questions you may have about these magnificent creatures.

A series of food fairs, starting on Sunday 22 August, will take place on the town square, with a range of stalls selling an aromatic mix of hot takeaway treats, delicious ambient food and fresh tasty delicacies. Other food fair dates include Sunday 29 August and Sunday 5 September, starting at 10am – come early so you don’t miss out!

There will also be a series of guided walks/ tours focusing on different aspects of the history and heritage of the town, led by local Blue Badge Tourist Guide, James Carpenter. Attendees will learn the stories behind the iconic buildings and stunning churches, discover secret side streets and hidden gems of Market Harborough. These will take place on selected Thursday evenings and Saturday daytime throughout the remainder of the summer, (see below).

The co-ordinated calendar of events has been planned to safely welcome visitors back to the town centre and support our local retailers and eateries who are working so hard to recover and move forward from the lockdown challenges we’ve all suffered.

Cllr Phil King, Leader of Harborough District Council said “After the difficult last 18 months, we hope that this events programme helps to revitalise the town centre, increasing footfall and vibrancy, in support of the local businesses and eateries in Market Harborough. There is something for everyone and lots to look forwards to.”

Other events planned include arts and crafts fairs, the climate action inspired Market Harborough Great Big Green Week, market anniversary celebrations, farmers markets, a classic car display, and a volunteer and community fair, so don’t forget to make a note in your diary.
