Job seekers to benefit from regular support

Following the success of a recent trial drop-in ‘Job Club’ to help those seeking employment, these are to become a regular event.

Over the last month, Harborough District Council’s Economic Development team and the National Careers Service hosted two trial Job Clubs in Lutterworth, where unemployment is slightly higher than other parts of the district.

The outcome was very positive, with residents benefitting from professional support to help them on to the next stage of their job search.

Due to this success, the Job Club will now take place on the first Friday of every month from 12.30pm-4pm, at The Wycliffe Rooms in Lutterworth town centre, on:

  • Friday 5 November 2021
  • Friday 3 December 2021
  • Friday 7 January 2022
  • Friday 4 February 2022
  • Friday 4 March 2022

Cllr Phil King, Leader of Harborough District Council, said: “Whilst the unemployment rate has fallen in September 2021, the number of people claiming universal credit and job seekers allowance has increased by 150 per cent from since September 2019. So we’re very keen to make the Lutterworth Job Club a regular event for anyone whether they are unemployed, employed and looking for new opportunities, a school leaver or graduate, on universal credit or not.”

The events will be hosted by Harborough District Council, the National Careers Service and Job Centre Plus which will be providing a range of support, including:

  • CV and interview skills
  • Job searching and applying techniques
  • Access to training and qualifications
  • Careers advice
  • Support with benefit claims
