With 12 competing nations, 43 elite gliding pilots with crews and supporters, plus hundreds of visitors, there was lots to enjoy during the Women’s World Gliding Championships 2022.

Organisers successfully hosted the amazing eco-sporting event, supported by the Council, and held for the first time in Great Britain at the Gliding Centre, Husbands Bosworth, despite setbacks of mixed weather and flying conditions.

Glider parade in The SquareThe fortnight, packed full of action, included opening events to welcome the teams in Market Harborough and Lutterworth, with local shop windows dressed in the competing nation colours, team parades, have-a-go sessions on a glider simulator, activities for children and families, plus a special visit from the Council Chairman and Lord Lieutenant of Leicestershire.

As well as a free open weekend, giving people a chance to see the action close up, the final flight day saw an Aerosparx international pyrotechnic display and party night.
