Harborough Big Green Week takes place between Saturday 10 June and Sunday 18 June in support of the nationwide Great Big Green Week.

Harborough District Council is supporting Sustainable Harborough Community by organising events for residents to take part in Harborough and across the district.

The council is hosting an open meeting for people to find out more about how it is implementing the Climate Emergency Action Plan on Thursday 15 June, from 7-8.30pm, in The Symington Building.

There will also be a drop-in exhibition held throughout the week (Monday 12 June, Tuesday 13 June, Thursday 15 June and Friday 16 June) on how the council and Sustainable Harborough Community are working to tackle climate emergency. This is also in The Symington Building, from 10am to 6pm.

Another event the council is putting on is a short course for businesses to help them understand carbon reduction and access support to reach their goals. This will take place at the Harborough Innovation Centre, on Wednesday 14 June, from 11am to noon.

On Saturday 10 June, Harborough Big Green Week will launch with a Green Street at the Carnival Showground, on Symington’s Recreational Ground, from midday until 5pm. It will include a whole range of eco-friendly stalls.

On Sunday 18 June, the week will conclude with a Big Green Picnic in Welland Park from 11am to 3pm. Residents can pack their own picnic made from homegrown or locally produced produce and there will be games, competitions and activities for all the family.

Throughout the week there will be events at venues in and around Harborough run by local community groups including walking and cycling trails, litter picking, arts and crafts, mindfulness sessions, garden tours, compost demonstrations and more.

Cllr Darren Woodiwiss, Harborough District Council’s Cabinet lead for Environmental and Climate Change, said: “We have some exciting events and activities planned to celebrate sustainability in Harborough district. As a council, we recognise the looming effects the climate emergency will have on our residents and continue to review the actions we can take to mitigate climate change and its affects within the district.”
