Leicester and Leicestershire Statement of Common Ground - date for meeting with MPs passes

Today, Friday 20 October 2023, was the date that Harborough District Council had proposed for an open meeting with Leicestershire’s three MPs about the Leicester and Leicestershire Statement of Common Ground (SOCG) relating to housing and employment needs.

Following a Full Council meeting on 18 September 2023, Cllr Knowles, Leader of Harborough District Council, invited the MPs to clarify and evidence the information that they have shared publicly on this issue and to question the advice that the council has been given.

Cllr Knowles and the council’s Interim Chief Executive have ‘stood down’ council officers and the planning consultancy who were on hand to attend the meeting.

The Statement of Common Ground will now go for a decision at Full Council on 6 November 2023. The report for the meeting will be published on the council’s website under ‘council meetings’ on 27 October 2023.
