The Leader of Harborough District Council has asked council officers to consider all possible options for next steps following the government’s announcement this week that planning permission for a new prison at Gartree should be allowed.

Cllr Knowles, Leader of Harborough District Council, said: “Minutes after the council received the decision on the Gartree Prison Appeal from the government on Wednesday afternoon, I requested that officers explore all possible options available to us and leave no stone unturned. It is very important that time is taken to do this fully and with due consideration. I am very grateful to the officers for all the work they are doing to look at this in detail.”

On Wednesday 15 November the government announced The Secretary of State’s decision that the Appeal from the Ministry of Justice (MOJ) should be allowed and permission should be granted, subject to conditions.
