Market Harborough's Lights Switch On event welcomes the festive season to the district
Published Friday 4 October 2024Christmas in the district begins with Market Harborough’s Christmas Lights Switch On event in the town centre and 2024 is set to be the biggest year yet.
Following the success of last year’s Saturday night spectacular, the festivities will once again take place on Saturday 23 November 2024 from 5pm, with the illumination of the lights at 6.30pm. The Christmas tree will be lit up on the night, providing The Square with a bright and decorative feature for visitors to admire during all hours of the day. The Christmas tree is kindly being sponsored by Market Harborough Building Society.
A Market Harborough Building Society spokesperson said: “We’re pleased to support the Market Harborough Christmas Lights Switch On again this year. As part of our Thrive Agenda, we believe everyone should have the opportunity to live a full and positive life, by sponsoring the Christmas tree, we look forward to bringing our community together and kicking off the festive season in style.”
The popular free street entertainment returns with stilt walkers, LED hula-hoopers, and jugglers. The star of the season, Father Christmas makes an arrival from the North Pole to bring smiles to little faces and live music will be played throughout the evening to get you in the Christmas spirit, with plenty more surprises in store.
The festivities don’t stop there, with many more exciting events happening across the district, including late night shopping, best festive window competition and a reindeer Christmas trail. The much-loved Christmas Food and Drink Festival returns to The Square in Market Harborough from Friday 22 November to Sunday 24 November 2024 and with a fantastic selection of food and drink, there really is something for everyone. Throughout the festive season, the regular Artisan and Farmer’s markets will also continue on The Square.
Cllr Jo Asher, Cabinet lead for Culture, Leisure, Economy and Tourism, said: “I always look forward to the Christmas Lights Switch On every year and it’s a wonderful start to the festive season. It’s once again going to be a fantastic evening. With the event returning on a Saturday, this is a great way for people to combine their visit with some Christmas shopping and support local businesses and retailers. I hope you will join us to welcome the festive season to the Harborough district.”
