Local residents work together to plant a new Tiny Forest in their community
Published Saturday 22 March 2025Residents got together and brought their spades, shovels and gardening gloves for a free family tree and shrub planting event at The Headlands Recreation Ground in Market Harborough.

Volunteers met today (Saturday 22 March) to plant a new Tiny Forest which is a dense, fast-growing woodland, made up of 600 trees, planted on tennis court-sized plots.
As well as enhancing the space for communities, Tiny Forests encourage wildlife such as birds, bees and other pollinators.
The project is led by environmental charity, Earthwatch Europe, and supported by Harborough District Council and the Forestry Commission.
Cllr Phil Knowles, Leader of Harborough District Council, said: “Tiny Forests enhance our open spaces and create attractive places for people to spend time together.
"Their health and wellbeing benefits are matched by the positive impact they have on biodiversity and their role in mitigating against climate change.
“Thanks to everyone who came along today to help plant the Tiny Forest in Market Harborough and to the council officers and representatives from Earthwatch who supported the event.”
Residents can play an important part in nurturing new Tiny Forests by volunteering as a ‘Tree Keeper’ – for more information visit: https://tinyforest.earthwatch.org.uk/get-involved
A further Tiny Forest will be planted in Devitt Way, Broughton Astley – dates to be confirmed soon. The Tiny Forests project in Harborough district has received £60,000 of funding from Leicestershire County Council.
