Council awards more grants in year two of £1 million Community Grant Fund
Published Tuesday 2 December 2025Harborough District Council has announced the successful recipients of the first round of year two applications for the £1 million Community Grant Fund.
A total of £86,400 has been given to parishes in Harborough district to enable the delivery of projects and initiatives to benefit communities at a local level.
The projects which received funding at the council’s Cabinet Sub-Committee Grants meeting, on 25 November 2025, include:
- Illston on the Hill Parish Council – (£5,000) to plant eight new trees in the recreational area of the village
- Tilton on the Hill & Halstead Parish Council – (£6,750) to upgrade 14 old streetlights to LEDs
- St Peter’s Church, Tilton on the Hill – (£3,250) to make the winding mechanism on the church clock electric
- Success Academy Trust, Thomas Estley Community College, Broughton Astley – (£7,000) to refurbish and modernise its community kitchen
- Great Glen Parish Council – (£27,400) to replace the existing wooden and metal netting fencing at the playpark with RoSPA-approved multi-coloured hoop-topped metal fencing
- 1st Kibworth Scouts – (£17,000) to purchase and install a large greenhouse with external planters for outdoor education facility
- Ullesthorpe Playing Field Association – (£20,000) to install new children’s playground equipment.
A further £10,717.98 was awarded from an underspend grant in year one of the scheme to:
- Saddington Parish Meeting – (£1,560) to have 20mph road markings in the village
- Illston on the Hill Parish Council – (£2,726) to install new fencing and a gate around the recreation ground
- St Leonard’s Church, Thorpe Langton – (£3,218.98) to purchase seating, storage and play equipment for young people
- Leicester Musical Memory Box – (£675) to purchase three contactless card donation machines
- Mowsley Parish Meeting – (£2,538) to purchase and install a defibrillator.
Each organisation demonstrated how their projects aligned with the council’s priorities which are community leadership to create a sense of pride in our place, promoting health and wellbeing and encouraging healthy life choices, creating a sustainable environment to protect future generations and supporting businesses and residents to deliver a prosperous local economy.
The council has also allocated £48,615.84 in Section 106 funding to St Nicholas PCC in Fleckney for access improvements to the church building.
Section 106 contributions are provided by developers for community improvements in areas where development has occurred.
