Housing stock to be increased for homeless people after government funding award
Published Thursday 11 December 2025More homes for people in need are set to be purchased by the council following a funding allocation from the government.
A capital grant totalling £466,000 from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) under the existing Local Authority Housing Fund round 3 scheme has been awarded to Harborough District Council for two homeless temporary accommodation units and one resettlement property.
In 2024 the council received £514,750 and subsequently delivered two units of homeless temporary accommodation and a resettlement property.
The homes which the authority intends to purchase will be spread across the area in locations including Market Harborough and Medbourne.
Cat Hartley, Director of Communities and Wellbeing at Harborough District Council, said: “I am pleased we have been awarded this funding which the MHCLG assumes equates to 40% of the costs.
“The money will increase our homeless temporary accommodation and is a further endorsement of the great work we have been undertaking in terms of extending our own managed housing provision.”
