Published Wednesday 18 February 2026A memorial bench honouring much-loved street cleaner Billy Kimpton has been unveiled in Market Harborough town centre.
The bench, titled “Billy’s Bench”, includes a commemorative plaque recognising Billy’s service and contribution to the local community.

The bench has been installed as part of wider town centre improvement scheme which will deliver eight new benches, replace worn seating and enhance the quality and accessibility of public space within the town centre.
The installation provides a permanent tribute to Billy’s role in day-to-day life of the town and offers residents and visitors a place to pause and reflect.
Cllr Peter James, Chairman of Harborough District Council, said: “This bench recognises the contribution made by a dedicated member of our local community. Alongside wider improvements to town centre seating, it ensures that his service is formally acknowledged and remembered.”
This project is part of a wider programme of UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) activity aimed at improving local places and supporting community pride.
