Harborough District Council has announced it is to invest £80,000 towards an £87,000 project to install new hydrotherapy equipment at Lutterworth Leisure Centre, expanding the health and wellbeing interventions available to residents in Lutterworth and surrounding villages.

The project will see the installation of a hydropod and two hydrobeds, providing the community with access to hydrotherapy treatments designed to support recovery from injury, rehabilitation and the management of long-term health conditions.

Hydrotherapy uses the natural properties of warm water to support the body during exercise and treatment. The buoyancy of the water reduces pressure on joints and muscles, allowing people recovering from injuries or living with conditions such as arthritis, chronic pain or mobility issues to move more comfortably while improving strength, flexibility and circulation.

In addition, hydrotherapy is widely recognised for its benefits for mental wellbeing. Warm water therapy can help reduce stress, promote relaxation, and support improved mental health, providing a calming environment that supports emotional recovery.

The project is being delivered in partnership with the council’s leisure operator, Everyone Active, who will project manage the works. Everyone Active has also contributed financially towards the scheme, helping to ensure the project can be completed and brought into use for the benefit of the community.

Cllr Phil Knowles, Leader of Harborough District Council, said: “Investing in facilities that support the health and wellbeing of our residents is a key priority for the council. The introduction of hydrotherapy equipment at Lutterworth Leisure Centre will provide valuable support for people recovering from injury, living with long-term conditions, or simply looking for ways to improve their overall wellbeing.

“We are pleased to be working in partnership with Everyone Active, whose support and expertise will help deliver this project and ensure these new facilities are available for the community to benefit from.”

Cllr Jo Asher, Cabinet lead for Culture, Leisure, Economy and Tourism, said: “Three years ago we saved the leisure centres and invested millions of pounds to enhance and upgrade them. This investment is a further investment in our communities, both for now and for the future.”

The council’s investment reflects its ongoing commitment to improving opportunities for residents to live active and healthy lives, while ensuring that local leisure centres continue to provide services that meet the evolving needs of the community.
