New Chairman confirmed at Annual Council
Published Wednesday 20 May 2026Councillor Buddy Anderson has been elected as Chairman of Harborough District Council for the 2026/27 council year.
Councillor Anderson received the chain of office from outgoing Chairman Councillor Peter James at the Annual Council meeting on Monday 18 May 2026.
The Chairman, whose role is ceremonial, represents the council at civic functions and at local events around the district.
Councillor Anderson represents the Great Bowden and Arden ward in Market Harborough.
Councillor Anderson lives in Market Harborough with his partner Chloe and their young son. He has had a successful career in financial services for over 11 years.
He is one of the youngest Chairman in the council’s history and the council’s first openly neurodivergent Chairman, and hopes to inspire others with autism or ADHD that public service is open for everyone to succeed in.
Councillor Anderson confirmed that his chosen charity for the year will be LOROS Hospice, in memory of his brother-in-law Dan Kettle.
The Vice Chairman will be Councillor Peter Scott, ward councillor for Glen.
Outgoing Chairman Councillor Peter James, who represents the Little Bowden ward in Market Harborough thanked those who had supported him during his year in office.
During his time in office, Cllr James fundraised for his chosen charity Smile Train UK raising a total of £2,000.
