BMX ace Keelan Phillips is to attend Welland Park Academy in Market Harborough on Wednesday to give students a taste of life as a pro freestyle rider.

Keelan, who started riding when he was just 10 years old, has competed in international competitions around the world and now performs some of his spectacular trademark moves for his biggest clients across the world.

A Leicestershire lad, Keelan is working with Leicestershire & Rutland Sport (LRS) on their Legacy roadshow, which has previously seen visits to Harborough schools from Karina Bryant London Olympic medallist and Sam Ruddock, Paralympian.

The LRS Legacy programme introduces top professional athletes to schools to show young people how hard work and determination can help achieve their goals, whatever they may be.

Harborough District Council, which has worked with Welland Park Academy to organise the visit, has also secured Keelan to attend its FREE multi sport session that takes place at the Academy every Wednesday 6pm-8pm for 11-16 year olds which anyone is welcome to attend.

Cllr James Hallam portfolio holder for Community & Wellbeing, said: “These roadshows are a fantastic part of the legacy from London 2012. We have been fortunate enough to have had several visits to the district from high profile athletes who have inspired and motivated young people through the sharing of their experiences and the trials and tribulations they faced in getting to where they are today. Keelan Phillips is a great addition to the line up and being a young, local lad I have no doubt he will inspire the young people at Welland Park .”
