Chance for start-up businesses to trade at popular market

New start-up businesses are being invited to join Harborough’s new-look indoor market when it re-opens in April.

Harborough District Council is creating special start up stalls within its Harborough Market building, which is currently undergoing redevelopment, to encourage new businesses or budding stallholders to trade from the venue in Northampton Road, Market Harborough.

Terms are flexible, with stalls up for grabs from around just £15 a day.

The invitation is part of plans to create a more vibrant and successful market and offer shoppers a wider range of quality foods and goods, as well as support small businesses.

Harborough Market is being redeveloped by Jeakins Weir Ltd on behalf of the council, with improved layout and enhanced shopping experience for customers, including dedicated food hall, public toilets accessible from inside the venue; improved lighting, and better entrances and signage.

The revamp is part of a major project by Harborough District Council to improve the use of its property assets.

Since January, market stallholders have been temporarily trading from The Square in the town with a view to moving back into the indoor market when redevelopment work is complete. The Sunday antiques market is temporarily trading from the Assembly Rooms at Welland Park Academy.

Councillor Paul Bremner, Harborough District Council’s portfolio holder for finance and assets, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for people who are starting a business or looking to build on their existing small business. This is a chance to introduce customers to new products at a popular town shopping location. We want to support enterprise, promote entrepreneurialism and offer opportunities for business growth, while at the same time offering shoppers more choice.”
