New services for Armed Forces in Market Harborough
Published Monday 20 October 2014The Royal British Legion (RBL) has announced a partnership with Harborough District Council in The Symington Building.
It will place an additional Legion presence in Market Harborough on the second and fourth Monday each month from 2pm until 4.30pm for advice and information.
Appointments with the RBL's Case Officer will be available at The Symington Building in Adam and Eve Street every Monday.
This new service is part of nationwide changes recently undertaken by The Royal British Legion to make its welfare services more accessible to the Armed Forces past and present, and their families, across the UK.
The Symington Building is one of a number of planned new outreach locations across Leicestershire which will offer a knowledgeable and dedicated support worker as a face-to-face point of contact for those in need of help and advice from the Legion.
Cllr David Beaty, Harborough District’s Armed Forces Champion, said: “I’d like to welcome the Royal British Legion to The Symington Building. They do such great work for members of the Armed Forces, past and present, and their families. The presence of the RBL adds to the services available at this important building.”
Linda Flecknell, The Royal British Legion Area Manager for the East Midlands said:‘The Legion is a national organisation but with a footprint in the local community across the Leicestershire. This latest partnership with Harborough District Council and The Symington Building in Market Harborough shows our commitment to making our welfare services as accessible as possible to our beneficiaries across the region.’
‘The profile and needs of our beneficiaries are changing and access points such as this, together with our website and national helpline number, make it easier than ever before to contact the Legion to ask for help’.
The Rev John Morley, the Chairman of the Market Harborough branch of the RBL, said: "We are very pleased to have this facility in The Symington Building. We have waited a long time for this opportunity and we hope that service and ex-service personnel will benefit from it greatly."
As the nation’s leading Armed Forces charity, the Legion spends £1.6 million a week, or £84 million a year on vital welfare work, providing social, emotional and financial care and support to serving and ex-Service people and their families.
