Solar panels introduced at town market

Environmentally-friendly solar panels are to be installed on the roof of Harborough Market.

Harborough District Council will introduce the photovoltaic (solar) panels on its market building in Northampton Road, Market Harborough in August.

The panels will be fitted, with assistance from Leicestershire County Council, on the south-facing pitched roof to ensure maximum efficiency.

They will be introduced at a cost of £58,000, with a seven-year payback, and will reduce energy costs, potentially generate revenue via the ‘feed in tariff’ scheme, and reduce the building’s carbon emissions.

Work will begin on 3 August 2015 and take up to a week to complete.

A small area of the Harborough Market car park in Northampton Road will be closed – about five parking spaces – to accommodate a site compound during the work.
