Council delighted with uptake of garden waste subscriptions

Residents in the Harborough district have been thanked for subscribing to have their garden waste collected from April.

So far more than 9,000 residents have signed up which was the target set by the council when introducing the subscription.

Last year, the district council announced a new £40 per bin annual subscription fee for garden waste collections applicable from 4 April 2016.

Cllr Phil King, Harborough District Council’s financial and commercialisation portfolio holder said: “We are pleased with the uptake of the garden waste service from residents of Harborough district and would like to thank them for taking the time to do so.  Already over 25% of households have subscribed and we expect that more households will be prompted to subscribe by the beginning of the growing season.”

Any resident in the Harborough district, who has not already done so, is encouraged to visit www.harborough.gov.uk/green-bin or call 01858 828282 to ensure they have their green bin sticker.

The sticker means they will be able to have their green bins emptied fortnightly between the months of April and November 2016, and during March 2017. Garden waste collections will not take place during the winter months of December, January and February.
