Two sports clubs in the Harborough district have benefited from a grant – and others are being encouraged to apply for funding.

Fleckney and Kibworth Running Club and the Billesdon Ping Pong Club have both received funding as part of the Sports Club Grant Fund.

The Sports Club Grant Fund is open to sports clubs and organisations in the Harborough district and offers grants up to the value of £250.

The funding, managed by Harborough District Council, is allocated to successful applicants by the Local Sport Alliance made up of sport clubs, Leicester-Shire and Rutland Sport, Harborough District Council, School Sports Games and volunteers and organisers from various physical activities.

Karen Foyster, from Fleckney and Kibworth Running club, said: “We were delighted to receive the grant. It will help us to train another run leader to help with the beginners group we have planned for January 2017. It will also buy equipment and allow us to offer some expert advice on injury prevention and nutrition.”

Phil Jarvis, Chair of the Local Sports Alliance said “Often sports clubs need a helping hand to buy equipment, recruit members or gain coaching expertise. The Sports Club Grant Fund can help supply funds for such activities.”

Harborough District Councillor Rosita Page said: “As a partner in the Local Sports Alliance, Harborough District Council recognises the importance of supporting sporting activities for the long term positive benefits for the health and well being of residents.”
