Council to take over market management

The district council will take over management at Harborough Market next year, councillors have agreed.

Harborough District Council’s Executive agreed on Monday 9 October 2017 that management of Harborough Market will be brought in-house from 1 February 2018 when the current contract with management company Market Place Europe expires.

The council said the decision will help it continue to maximise the use of its assets. It would also help reduce overall running costs, with plans to improve marketing strategies to help increase the number of shoppers using the market and improve links to wider community events.

Councillor Phil King, Harborough District Council’s portfolio holder for finance and assets said: “We looked at a number of options but bringing the management in-house will aim to provide not just value for money, but potential for improvements going forward. We’d like to thank Market Place Europe for its time at Harborough Market.”
