New online lottery could help your good cause

An exciting new online lottery is being launched in the Harborough district to help local community groups and charities – and you could be a part of it.

The Harborough District Community Lottery – or ‘Harborough Lotto’ – will launch later in the year and – to get the ball rolling – local community groups and charities are being invited to a special event to find out how they can benefit.

The new online lottery is being launched by Harborough District Council later in the year. Once launched, 60p from every £1 lottery ticket sold will go direct to local charities, voluntary organisations and other good causes. As well as having a chance to win great prizes, people who buy a lottery ticket online will be able to nominate which good cause they would like to support.

Now, local not-for-profit organisations and charities are being encouraged to get on board and attend a lottery launch event to find out more.

Councillor Janette Ackerley, Harborough District Council’s portfolio holder for Wellbeing and Localities, said: “Our launch event will be a fun and informal opportunity for us to explain a little more about how the new lottery could help your organisation. It will be an effective way for your good cause to raise funds – with half of all lottery ticket sales from supporters that sign up for your cause transferred into your organisation’s bank account. All you need to do is shout about the Harborough Lottery to your supporters and community.”

An event to help not-for-profit groups find out more takes place on Wednesday 7 March 2018, from 6pm to 8pm, at The Ceremony Room (registration office), first floor of The Symington Building, Adam and Eve Street, Market Harborough, LE16 7AG.

Cale Bannister, club spokesperson for Market Harborough Cricket Club, said: “This sounds like a great initiative and an interesting way to raise money. We will definitely be attending the launch and look forward to finding out more.”

Once launched, the Harborough District Community Lottery draw will take place every Saturday night with results posted on its website, Facebook and Twitter. Winners will be advised directly.

All supporters will get the chance to win prizes of up to £25,000 - plus smaller prizes – for just £1 per week. Every ticket has a 1 in 50 chance of winning a prize every week. That’s better than the National Lottery and the Health Lottery.

Anyone interested in attending the launch should register their interest at lottery@harborough.gov.uk by 28 February 2018.
